Our Setting – Cicely Davies Hall
In designing the environment at Toddlers Inn we have taken the time to think about the experiences that the children will have access to and the potential in all these areas.
We have provided children with a safe and nurturing environment that allowed them to explore the seven areas of learning through play.
We believe we have created a really rich learning environment through focus on the seven areas of learning, each section of the nursery is designed to help children thrive across all seven EYFS guidelines enhancing our curriculum to its fullest.
“The nursery is welcoming and the space is suitably organised with resources set out to enable children to select from a varied range of activities and toys.” – Ofsted 2010
Our Indoor Space
In our indoor classrooms are situated in a two large, bright and airy room, with full-length windows allowing a flood of natural light while the neutral colours and tones create a calming atmosphere.
There are two rooms within the nursery are designated as the Green Forest Room and Blue Forest Room.
The Blue Forest Room is designed for all children to enjoy and explore and is home to the younger groups.
The Green Forest Room is designed on a smaller scale to help our older children get ready or school, in helping them to feel and understand what a classroom is all about.
Both classrooms provide a base from which each group of children have their own area, allowing key teachers to work closely with the children in a quieter environment.
Children do come together over the course of the day to play in the Blue Forest Classroom and take part in activities laid out.
Our Outdoor Space
Our Outdoor Space has allowed us to create an urban garden for children to explore, playing with sand and water and helping to look after the plants.
The children are always eager to go outside and explore, and the children have access to the outside as much as possible.
Our second playground is situated just outside of then nursery, which we use for extracurricular and for the children to run around or go on the bikes.
In addition to these areas we also have the St John’s Wood Church Grounds, our local park, at the end of Cochrane Street, where we sometime take the children on nature walks.
The children are encouraged to respect their nursery and to share the responsibility of looking after it.
In doing this we give the children a chance to develop ‘life skills’ by helping tidy up toys at reset time and the older children help set the lunch tables.
